Mr. Toad on bug watch

This toad is the first line of defense against any creatures that may want to feast on this batch of recently sowed Brugmansia seeds.

toad2012.jpgHe has a confident "don't mess with me" look that is certain to scare unwanted visitors away.  My toad population appears to be rebounding this year so hopefully they will help me keep the snails under control this summer.

I just know it as the common Southern Toad. Fortunately it is not the non-native giant toad that is slowly marching northward from South Florida.

Here's some info on it from the University of Florida.

You are right about the pee.  As soon as you pick one up expect to get wet if you do not hold them properly.  As a kid I used to chase my sisters with them.  angel

hahahaa...Sounds like the typical brother...devil
Speaking of...I have a younger sister also, and if I remember correctly, toads didn't bother her...but my brother bothered her...lol...angry
And yep...Always got pee'd on...lol.....Was kinda fun to feed them crickets and things though...They would pounce on those things, and crunch, crunch, crunch....Also grasshoppers...Num Num....>,,<...cheeky

Had a large veggie garden growing up, and had tons of toads, and snakes...Left them for obvious reasons...Just the "Milk Snakes" would have to go away...We let the cats taunt and destroy those...hehehe...surprise

This has been an important conversation about toads...NOT BRUGS....hahahahaaaaa...angel
